This Independent Indigenous Peoples Forum was established during our struggle for effective participation in the UN Food Systems Summit in 2021. It was expanded to include water at the UN Water Conference in March 2023. Its focus is information-sharing and discussion of strategies and opportunities to strengthen our self-determined participation in UN bodies where our Food and Water Systems, Food Sovereignty and Right to Food are impacted. At this 11th virtual meeting, participants will provide updates about recent and upcoming events related to the defense of our Food and Water Sovereignty.
Information, updates and opportunities for participation will be shared related to:
Protection of Indigenous Peoples small-scale fisheries and fishing ways of life
Amending the International Code of Conduct on Pesticides
Climate Change: the UNFCCC Working Group on Agriculture, preparations for COP 30 in Brazil, the Santiago Network on Loss and Damage, and the International Indigenous Youth Forum on Climate Change
The 3rd Nyéléni Global Forum on Food Sovereignty (Sept. 2025)
The 6th International Indigenous Peoples Corn Conference, Belice
The UN Committee on Food Security and Civil Society and Indigenous Peoples Mechanism
Protecting Native Seeds at the International Treaty on Plant Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture and at WIPO
The UN High Seas Treaty: protection of Oceans as sources of life and food for the planet
